In this mini-collection, I explored various ways that fashion can be sustainable and socially
responsible through inspiration, materials, techniques, and the overall function of a design. I
developed an efficient pattern-making process in which each design was created from the
previous one. Creating this collection required a collaborative element where I connected
with local textile and woodworking artists to develop the fabric and display. The methods
explored present an integrative approach to design and construction easily translated to the
classroom.
For over ten years, the OACCE has managed the city arts programs and served as the
primary point of municipal contact for local organizations, businesses, artists and creative
entrepreneurs. This exhibition accepted 18 artists out of 50 submissions that required
professional photographs and an artist's statement. Approximately 200 people visit the
gallery on a weekly basis. There was significant press coverage and the garments were on
display for two months.
